New information has emerged concerning the status of seven (7)

of a group of more than a dozen Eritreans who were arrested by the Eritrean secret police in late November and early December 2005 and had since been made to disappear (Refer to a previous Eritrea's Disappeared post on the story, link below).

The Facebook page SACTISM-Classified Documents has recently published detailed accounts in Tigrinya about the fate of the seven prisoners who were being held at the Karsheli prison in Asmara.

According to the page, four (4) were executed in Mai Atal at midnight, 22-23 August 2007, by a shot to the head and their bodies buried together on the spot. They were:-

Idris Mohammed Ali – veteran of the Eritrean Independence struggle and patriotic singer.

Jimi'e Kmeil – Journalist at Eritrea al Hadeetha.

Ahmed Mohammed Musa Gumo'e – Captain in the Eritrean Defense Force's Commando brigade.

Adem Shelshel – Employee of the Ministry of Information and former police officer in Asmara.

Three (3) others had died earlier (June-July 2007) in prison, namely:-

Jeilani Al'amin – officer at Asmara Traffic Police (formerly with the Immigration office). He died in his prison cell due to lack of medical attention and was secretly buried in the vicinity of Deki Nazo on the road to Dekemhare.

• Two of the prisoners Rubat Al-hasan and Abdalla Ramadan (one was arrested in Keren and the other in the Southern Region) died days within each other in the same period. The cause of their death was torture and untreated ailments. They were both secretly buried near Deki Ar'ada on the way to Dekemhare.

Major Kahsai Beyene (Wedi Beyene) was in charge of their interrogation as well as all arrangements, such as the secret burials, and personally administered the executions.

The SACTISM page report furthermore provides the names of all the other officers involved with the case, including higher officials responsible, as well as all those who were present at the executions.
